Synopsis: Godse becomes involved in reactionary political group which opposes Gandhi. He becomes confused when he falls in love with a beautiful married woman, Rani Mahta, who upholds Gandhi's policy. With Apte he is ordered to assassinate Gandhi. The local police chief, Das, becomes aware of the plot and attempts to persuade Gandhi to postpone the meeting at which this would take place. Gandhi refuses and meanwhile Godse, beset by doubts, spends time with Sheila, a Punjabi prostitute. Eventually Godse and Apte go to the meeting and Godse desperately fires the shots which kill Gandhi.
